Upgrade Oracle Private Agent Factory 26.4 to 26.7
If you're running Oracle's AI Database Private Agent Factory (PAF) on-premises or in a self-managed OCI VM, you've probably seen the 26.7 release land with some solid enhancements — and you're wondering what a clean upgrade path from 26.4 looks like in practice. I recently walked two of my own PAF hosts through this upgrade, and I wanted to put together a straightforward guide covering exactly what I did, in the order I did it.
==> Before You Start
A few things worth having in place before you touch anything:
1. Local administrator credentials, ready to hand.
If you have SSO configured, note this carefully: upgrading from 26.4 to 26.7 completes a required role transition that **automatically disables SSO**, and redirects users to local login afterward. Make sure you have working local admin credentials before you begin, so you're not locked out right after a successful upgrade. You can re-enable SSO afterward through Configure SSO in the application settings.
2. A maintenance window.
The upgrade briefly takes the application offline while the container is rebuilt and restarted. If you have active users or scheduled workflows relying on this instance, give them a heads-up.
3. An independent backup of your PAF volume.
PAF's installer takes its own internal snapshot as part of the upgrade process, but it's good practice to also take your own, outside that mechanism, before you start:

Copy this off the VM if you can — Object Storage, another host, wherever is convenient — so it's not sitting only on the volume you're about to upgrade.
==> Prerequisites
Shell environment.
If you're running rootless Podman (which PAF typically does), make sure `XDG_RUNTIME_DIR` is set correctly in your session:

```
SELinux set to permissive for the duration of the upgrade.
Oracle's own upgrade documentation calls for this explicitly:

sudo setenforce permissive
getenforce
```
Get the New Installer in Place
Download and extract the 26.7 installer to your staging directory:
```bash
cd <directory where the zip was copied>
tar xzf <installer>.tar.gz
```
This gives you a fresh staging directory (in my case, `/u01/staging267`) alongside your existing installation.
Reset the Installer State
This ensures every step of the installer re-runs cleanly, rather than skipping steps it thinks are already complete from a previous session:
